Green River - Desolation and Gray Canyons

Day Seven

16 miles to Poverty camp
Groover site – “Reeds of Contemplation”
Breakfast –oatmeal, toast and coffee.
Lunch – The usual fare
Dinner- The noodles for the spaghetti are in the trunk of a car that's now somewhere between the put in and the take out, and the meatballs went bad... so we potlucked the leftovers, and came up with a really good meal. Gourmet cheese, wine, for appetizers followed by salad, hamburger, and veggie burger Italian sandwiches.

Three Fords

Three fords right below our camp is the biggest rapid on the trip. Nothing like having two days to over analyize a rapid. Jake is taking a duckie through. Rob figures he has a 50/50 chance of making it and tightens up Jake's pfd until he can't breath. There are several big eddies at the bottom and there will be lot's of throw bags coming at him so he should be OK if he swims.

Bob1 and Val go first to set up the video. We're all captured on tape. Never seen ourselves going through a rapid before, ought to be interesting. Everyone has a good run. all eyes are on Jake who we save for last. He punches the river wide, there is a hole at the top and and makes it. Next a series of waves with several nasty (especially for a duckie) laterals. Jake get's hit by one and he's swimming. Throw bags are launched and he's reeled in. Once on shore he comes over to Rob and says "That was humbling experience and thanks for tightening up my PFD".

Last night campfire everyone reads a poem, tells a tale, or sings a song.
