Dolores River - Slickrock to Gateway
Day Three
Wake up early, sunshine, but no time to take a hike to the petroglyphs in the canyon. Breakfast, donuts, bacon, eggs, bread. Rob takes a VR from our campsite, while I get some pictures of cactus in bloom.
Launch again at 11:30. Dave takes the duckie, and the girls ride with Jay. Four class III rapids, Ok the “S” curve is definitely a class III others are probably II+. Heading to the take out at Bed Rock and find my daughter Megan launching on her guide training trip with a commercial rafting company, quite a surprise. Here is what I remember. I had taken over rowing, and hit every rock in Madame Curie rapid. I almost miss the take out, and pull a sweet back stroke move, whip the boat around and accidently bounce Joe back out into the current. Sorry Joe ;>). I kept hearing "Mom", "Mom", and am totally surprised to see my daughter Megs.
A little awkward for her, all of us descending upon her in the middle of nowhere, but she seemed proud of us. Takes about an hour to unpack the two groups who are departing from here. Ali & Corrine, and Jay, Marge, & who are all saying goodbye.
Flat water through the park, probably moved about 2-3 mph, went about 8 miles, constant rowing. Last rapid - big waves. Rob had good fun! Camped right after the rapid and Rob & I made enchiladas, salsa with fresh cilantro, guacamole, and margaritas. Fired up the iPod for a little dinner music. Worked for about an hour or so then the batteries went out, need to fix that.
