Lazy Days in Lodore

Put In

Camp, rig boats, eat a big dinner (garlic bread, garlic pasta, salad, and cheesecake). We are ready to get up early and leave for Disaster falls in the morning.

Rob is the Trip leader, that leaves Brian the river god, Waynemeister, Brad Duckie rescue master, Charles river rat. Ali, Cat, and Megan our river goddess’s.

Equipment 3 rafts, and 3 duckies, however Charles duckie has a slow leak, so we leave it behind.

Day One

Disaster Falls

Ranger checked us out, and we are the first group of 3 to launch!

Gates of Lodore should be renamed rocky road for this trip. We brought a stowaway with us, as we unloaded the table to prepare lunch a mouse runs up the leg of the table and wrinkles his nose at us, not sure if he will like his new surroundings', but we can’t go back now.

Disaster falls upper and lower is a rock garden. Later in the day, there is a fork in the river which pulls us right, we pull out and with Brian's help and get river left. Cat doesn’t make it, goes river right, the current runs her into a undercut cliff face, and she gets stuck, then her duckie flips. Brad bravely follows her and when she swims out he is there to help her get back into her duckie. Like the Powell expedition we have a disaster our first day in the canyon. Hopefully this will be the only "disaster" on the trip.

Finally reach camp around 5, lotsa playing and swimming this day. It’s steak and shrimp fajita’s for dinner ala Rob and Ali. Yellow Jackets are bad at the campsite, and I get stung, take a benedryl and relax away from the kitchen.
